Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

Did you have a happy Valentine's day? Our tradition has evolved into a day of affirmation for the kids. We have a fancy meal, all of us together, with the table set with chargers and cloths, and usually decorated with heart confetti made by the kids. Jeremy fixes a beautiful meal, and I write out words of affirmation for each of the kids. They seriously love it. All four of them.

This year, Jeremy made crepes for our breakfast. We decided to add a gift to our cards and I made up some movie ticket stubs to let the kids know we're going to go to the theater to watch Beauty and the Beast when it comes out. They were so excited! (I am too!) Their words of affirmation included things like "You are sweet and adorable" "You are growing big" "You are kind" "You are brave." It's a sweet time.

And Jeremy also got me a little gift. Well, he tried anyway. He bought a pot of daisies, my favorite flowers, but left them outside the night before where they froze and died. So (bless him) I got a pot of dead daisies for Valentine's. I laughed. He said he thinks I like gifts like that better because I really do love to laugh at a good joke. He does keep me laughing.

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

I finally ordered our onions today! We got around 300 for about $28. That comes to about 9 cents an onion. Not too bad! Now we just have to get out in the garden and get it ready. I'm not sure when some time will free up for us, though. It's been so crazy busy lately!

I've also set aside some money to order some new chicks for this year. The kids and I have also picked out some ducks, a goose, and we may possibly get a turkey. I can't wait.

I almost forgot about the Hop! So this will be fairly quick, but I do have a fun announcement. My sister and her husband, and my brother and his wife both had baby boys last week! So I got two new nephews in one week! They are both adorable, tiny little babies. It's fun being an Aunt.

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

I hope January has been a better month for you than it has been for me! I'm getting over the surgery, but it's taking longer than I would like. We did buy a new (to us) van, so that was terribly exciting and extremely stressful. (It's dark teal and feels very fancy. I was most excited about the working doors and windows.) But it's been a long month and I'm ready for life to calm down. We really need to do a little more school this week. And I don't think I've been out to the animals since the very beginning of the month. I'm ready to get my garden planned, my new chicks ordered, and set up for some baby goats. Patience, patience.

We have a new host this week, Jessica from the Faithful Farm Wife! Be sure to check her out.

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

Y'all are not going to believe this (unless you follow me on FB) but I had an appendectomy last week! It was crazy. I've never had a surgery or even been put to sleep. I woke up Tuesday morning with stomach pains that were horrible, but became manageable after a while. But then the pains would just not go away, so I went in to be checked. A doctor visit led to blood work and a CT scan, and then all of a sudden a surgeon was waiting on me in the OR. That same night!

The recovery has been similar to birth, although much more painful the first day. Of course, being a "crunchy" "natural" type of person that I try to be, when the nurse offered me two pain killer pills, I said I would just take one. 30 minutes later, I asked for the second. But I'm off all the meds now, and am slowly getting back to normal.

In the same week, my van's engine just broke. The whole engine, y'all. We said we would drive that van until it died, and now it has. It was quite the week. I'm hoping 2017 has gotten all of it's excitement and debt out of the way this month!

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

My first day of back to school with the kids involved an unexpected doctor's appointment, and my second day of back to school is our first day back to co-op and...the kids were too sick to go. So maybe, MAYBE, today we will be able to start school back.

Maybe we should wait until next week. Maybe.

I should know by now that plans always prove difficult to hold onto. There must be a lesson here.

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

Life is pretty much back to normal around here, although we aren't starting school back until next week. We've gotten the Christmas tree down, and the living room feels big enough to live in again. All the gifts are put away. We just paid off the last of the Christmas bills. And now it's 2017, which feels pretty crazy. I can't believe my baby will turn three this year, and my husband is inching toward 40. (I'm good though.)

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

I hope your Christmas was wonderful. Ours' was, and we spent all day Monday getting everything cleaned up and put away. The whole house feels full of new, nice things. I got a new vacuum from my in-laws that has made it very clear how badly we needed a new vacuum! The kids are all happy with their new toys and things too. Esmond was a little manic, but they all go through that age.

I also got my new computer that we've been waiting for, although it wasn't supposed to be a Christmas present. I'm still trying it out, and am not sure if I like it enough to spend that kind of money on it. It seems a bit slow, but the case and hinges seem very sturdy. Decisions, decisions. We'll figure it out. And now it's time to think about the new year and our goals and what not anyway. First thing on my list of resolutions is to lose the Christmas weight!

In other news, the Ultimate Bundles for Healthy Living and Herbs and Essential Oils are on sale again today and tomorrow only! Perfect timing for our New Year's resolutions, right? You can get either Bundle for $29.97, and if you buy one you'll have the opportunity to buy the other for only $15. So both Bundles would only cost $44.97. This past year, I lost 13 pounds just by eating good foods. (I haven't been eating good foods this month, and gained back 4 pounds. Ugh.)

  • The Healthy Living Bundle is designed to help us get back on track with our healthy eating and living. Good foods, and how to make them, fixing problems with sugar (yea, that's my big problem), hormones, weight, microbiomes, and much more.
  • The Herbs and Essential Oils Bundle is designed to give us the tools to stay healthy and support our bodies in the fight against bad germs. Using Herbs and Essential oils to replace medicine remedies that are overused and aren't trustworthy.

Both Bundles are awesome, and just what we all need right now. Get it today so you'll be ready on January 1st to make those resolutions come true. Here's my link, if you'd like to support us. Thanks my friends! And Happy New Year!

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

My computer is still on the fritz, but we have a new one on order. It won't be here for another week though. In the meantime, I have to balance my computer and my charger in an elaborate set up on the floor. And yes, it gets knocked into quite frequently, which causes the whole thing to turn off, and then I have to spend several minutes getting the charger balanced just right again.

I wish I could live without a computer, but it's pretty hard these days. Especially when I need to be researching and ordering gifts for Christmas. And Christmas cards! I haven't even done those yet. Or pictures for said cards. I may not do Christmas cards again this year. It's getting kind of late anyway.

Also, I have the gifts for three of my children, but not the fourth. (It is really hard to buy for a 10 year old girl!) So if you feel behind on your Christmas list right now, just compare yourself to me. I'm sure you'll feel much better!

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

I'm having computer problems y'all. We're searching for a new laptop now, but in the meantime if my computer isn't balanced just right, it goes off. And then my charging cord shorted out and now the thing won't charge unless the cord is also correctly and presisely balanced. All this balancing does not work so well.

In other news, since the computer has not been as available to distract me, we've been getting a lot done around the house.

Anyway, I better go on before this thing zaps out to the blue screen. Anyone have any suggestions for a laptop that's affordable and indestructible?

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

I hosted my very first sourdough bread baking class tonight. Jeremy helped me by firing up the brick oven at our church so that we could bake our loaves in it. It was a fun night! I hope I made sense...

We shaped 8 loaves, some in boules, a few braided loaves, and one sandwich loaf. I introduced them to their new pets the barm, and explained how to keep it alive. Then we mixed up some bread. To make sure the loaves were ready to bake an hour or so after we shaped them (instead of 8 hours), I added commercial yeast to the dough. They popped right up and baked beautifully in the bread oven. Bread bakes so much better in a brick oven than in my regular oven.

It was a fun class, and something I hope to do again!

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

I hope everyone is already in holiday mode and enjoying time with families! We are, it's been very pleasant and today we are starting our cooking/baking. We're making a sourdough pie crust for a pecan pie and a sweet potato casserole. Jeremy is smoking the two turkeys and those are going to be amazing. I'm so excited! I hope you have a wonderful and full Thanksgiving!

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

My Dad loves this coffee stuff called Italian Sweet Cream. And I tried some, and it really is so good. But then I had to go and ruin it. I read the ingredients. Don't you hate that? Now I can't even enjoy it. And it's not even like I drink coffee that often. (Once or twice a week.) And it has to have a LOT of cream and sugar in it. So now I'm wanting a milk cow, just for the cream. For my coffee. That I have once or twice a week. (Plus, you know the fact that a milk cow would give me enough milk for butter, cheese, and would still be making milk right now.) But Jeremy really loves the goats.

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

The broody hen in the coop has hatched out one little chick. I love watching chicks with their mamas. She comes out from hiding under her mama to see what her mama is pecking at. She watches and bobs her head a little and hops around. She jumps at the food in her mamas mouth, and then pecks at the same bite her mama is pecking at. It's amazing. Noemi is thrilled too, she loves the baby chickens. I can't wait to see what all y'all have been up to this week! Make sure to link back to one of us hosts so that we can possibly feature you!

Welcome to the Homestead Blog Hop!

Whew! What a week! Oh! But my birthday is coming! (That's a lot of exclamation points, and I apologize.) My birthday is my favorite day of the year.
